LaRue Semester Tests

I am a Freshmen so this is the first time that I have had to worry about semester tests. I am happy that the hardest semester test that I have this year is Spanish. I am really worried about that class and math because my grade is only one percent from dropping to a B+ in both of those classes. I do not like how semester tests are such a big part of your grade. Some classes have the test worth 20% of their grade.
A lot of people stress out a lot about semester tests. Some people study for weeks for the tests. For many people they will determine if they pass the class or not and I am happy that I am not in that situation. I like how some classes have a semester project like this class and in reading. I like this because you know what to do and it is not a paper and pencil test. I am happy that I am in this class because if I was not I would not of known how to do my semester reading project because it is with making presentations on the computer. I am also happy how next semester we will have a chance to opt out if we do good on out ITBS.

LaRue Basketball

This year I am on the Freshman basketball team. We have 13 boys out for basketball. We started practice about a month and a half ago. We have had 12 games this year and we are 12-0. We have had a lot of success because of all the time we work in the offseason in basketball. We go to the Rec Center almost every day and play. We play pick up games and shoot around. We are also very successful because of good coaching. We run dribble drive, high pick and roll, transition, and double fist. Those are out offense but we also have more specific plays that are meant for a specific shooter like elevator, wildcat, corner, and cowboy.
Cowboy is a play that if an ally oop. I like running this because it usually works and it likes good when it does. This play is hard because the lob pass needs to be good and the screens need to be good. We also have out of bounds plays like 2, Iowa, Iowa 2, and 2 reverse. We always start the game out in a full court press and try to get turnovers. Our closest game we won by 18 to Boone. I hope we can go undefeated all year and give everyone a lot of playing time.

Baseball

Baseball is my favorite sport. I was on a baseball travel team for five years. We were the Cougars and we won many tournaments and one state championship. On our team we had kids from different towns and schools. We had four Carroll kids, two Sack City kids, and six Kuemper kids. I think that travel teams are much more fun than the sports through the school because on a travel team you meet kids from all over the state. You also have many different tournaments in a year unlike in high school you only have one and freshman and JV have none.
I think that it is a great advantage to have been on a travel team when you are young because almost all the kids that play basketball and baseball have been on one because they are so much better then the kids that were not on one. Travel teams bring you closer to your friends because you get to spend the night in hotels with them. In between games and days you get to be with them and go out to eat. The games are very fun but they can also get very serious. My travel baseball team coaches have yelled at the umpire many times for terrible calls. Some of these calls can cost you games and tournaments.
